Rachel McDonald Glamour

This is the second shoot with the lovely Rachel McDonald (@Rachel_Model1 on twitter if you would like to follow her) following on from my earlier post about two days of excellent shooting in February. This shoot was focusing more on nude work and glamour.

Luckily as this was the second of the two shoots my laryngitis had disappeared and I was once again able to talk (some people may not think that that was a good thing).

We started with some nude work – all seated. The first two shots were taken against a teal background and there was a single softbox in front of the model (to camera right) and another gridded reflector behind the model throwing a little bit of light into the hair and defining the arm. We had a lovely very strong fan on as well for these.

We then moved to a simple setting in front of a white curve background for the next set of nude shots again – though a scarf was added to add a little extra to the shot and we managed to get some cheeky facial expressions.

The third set was more of a glamour boudoir pose. For this the model posed in some purple satin sheets on a bed whilst a large softbox was hoisted high into the air and pointed down on the model. My shooting position was balanced precariously up a ladder also pointing down.

Finally we moved into some clothed shots against a purple background and using a very nice new deep reflector that gave off some impressive shadows.

As per usual Rachel was great to deal with, lots of fun and a gorgeous lady to work with. Hope you enjoy looking at the shots of the day.

Rachel McDonald – Fashion and Glamour

January and February were odd months this year, especially for my photography work, - mainly due to the weird British weather patterns all of a sudden I went a month without any photographic shoots and then, like buses, a few came all at once. On two days in February I had the pleasure of photographing a new, to me, model called Rachel McDonald (@Rachel_Model1 on twitter if you would like to follow her).

This post covers the first of the two shoots – on a day when I had come down with a bout of laryngitis so spent most of the shoot croaking or using hand signals. For this one as it was the first time I had met Rachel we went for a fashion and glamour orientated shoot.

We had a number of costume changes – a bodycon black dress which was perfect for Rachel’s blonde hair, a cute red tank, a lingerie set and also a part nude set. For this set I actually stayed in one part of the studio – that being against a white infinity cove. The differences in colour with the background are all down to the different lighting conditions used.

Most of the following photographs are taking with a beauty dish and most of the time only two lights were used – one key and one for highlighting hair. For the part nude photographs we also used a rather high powered fan to get some movement in both the hair and the fabric that we were using to wrap Rachel in.

All in all it was a fun shoot and I think we created some lovely images. Hope you enjoy viewing these ones. Thanks for reading.
